Credit Score Fundamentals Every Adult Should Know
What credit scores actually measure, why they matter and how to improve yours steadily.
Credit scores are prediction engines. They estimate the likelihood you will repay borrowed money based on how you have handled debt in the past. Five factors drive most scoring models: payment history, credit utilization, length of credit history, credit mix and new credit.\n\nPayment history is the largest lever. A single missed payment can drop a score by dozens of points and linger for years. Automate at least the minimum payment on every account.\n\nUtilization matters almost as much. Keep balances under thirty percent of each card limit, and under ten percent if you can. This is a monthly snapshot, not a lifetime commitment.
